The Case and dial

The new replica Audemars Piguet Royal Oak model comes with a black ceramic case and rose gold hexagonal screws to secure the frame while creating an elegant contrast of colors. Bucci's more modern interpretation of Genta's 1972 string or checkerboard pattern eschews the twisted rope decoration and uses modern microstructure techniques to carve small squares into the surface of the sapphire disc. The small squares are then covered with a gold film through metallization. The sapphire disc with the string pattern is mirror-polished and placed on a black brass plate. It refracts light like a prism, creating an ever-changing rainbow spectrum. In addition, as the Associated Press points out, "the different dials have different rainbow-colored patterns, making each design unique."



The Movement

The titanium and sapphire caseback is engraved with the words "Limited Edition Carolina Bucci" and beneath it is the calibre 5800 movement. The frequency is 4hz/28800vph and displays hours, minutes, seconds and date. 22K rose gold oscillating weight is elegantly micro-bead blasted, polished and satin-finished to match the finish of the screws, hour-markers and hands.
